THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE DANCES ARE:

TARANTELLA The “Tarantella or Ballarella” of Minturno which is a lively and merry dance performed by country people on the threshing-floor and the town squares in every occasion of happiness and joy.

QUADRIGLIA Danza figurata, in voga nel XIX Secolo, in esso si scorge un residuo di influenza delle danze probabilmente del periodo napoleonico appresa durante il dominio francese.

SPOSALIA o
BALLO DELLE ROSE The “Wedding Dance or Dance of the Roses” was performed during the wedding banquets in honour of the bride and groom and also to initiate the courtship of the youngsters that offer a rose to the girl they have chosen during the banquet.

SALTARELLO Saltarello or Zomparello are performed for the abundant harvesting. These lively performances show all the gaiety and joy of life of the country people.

BALLO DELLE FASCE Un intermezzo gioioso che i bambini effettuavano, con fazzoletti colorati, sull’aia, per attenuare la fatica o per festeggiare un avvenimento in modo lieto.

SAGRA DELLE REGNE The Feast of the Grain includes dances and songs referring to the whole cycle of the grain: from the sowing to the moving, and from the beating to the harvesting. Among the dances, a characteristic one is the “Dance of the viglio” The viglio is a tool made of two wooden sticks joined together leather interlaced strings. This dance symbolized the beating of the grain on the threshing-floor.

OTTOBRATA o
BALLO DELLA VENDEMMIA Ballo d’origine pagana raffigurante le fasi della vendemmia, dal raccolto alla preparazione del vino, il ballo era eseguito sulle aie all’assaggio del primo vino.

LA REZZOLATA The Fisherman dance or the Net Dance. It is a thanksgiving dance performed on the beach by the fishermen for the good haul. Among smiles, skips and cross-dances each fisherman is smartly caught in the net of a promised wife.

Collateral activities:

- L’Associazione Culturale ha, nel suo ambito, l’organizzazione di un gruppo di giovanissimi i dai 5 ai 13 anni, gruppo che oltre ad una funzione propriamente folklorica assume, anche se in piccola parte, una funzione sociale interessando i bambini ad un’attività sana facendo così occupare il tempo libero.

- Partecipa nella seconda domenica di luglio, a Minturno (LT), all’organizzazione del Festival Internazionale del folklore “Sagra delle Regne”, festa del grano.

- Organizza, nella prima decade del mese di agosto, la “Rassegna di Arte e Musica Popolare nel Lazio”, con la partecipazione di più gruppi stranieri.
